Simulation of Cargo Rail Terminal for Irkutsk Oil Company

Simulation of Cargo Rail Terminal for Irkutsk Oil Company

Simulation of multimodal (rail + truck) cargo terminal servicing a group of petrochemical plants of Irkutsk Oil Company in Ust-Kut, Eastern Siberia. The model was used to estimate throughput of the terminal with various number of rail tracks, locos and cranes. The terminal handles simultaneous inbound and outbound material flows which leads to multiple interactive constraints and makes simulation the only effective tool for «what-if» analysis.

Project objective

  • Simulation of multimodal (rail + truck) cargo terminal servicing a group of petrochemical plants of Irkutsk Oil Company in Ust-Kut, Eastern Siberia
  • Estimation of the throughput of the terminal with various number of rail tracks, locos and cranes
  • Modeling of transportation of goods by trucks to remote oil fields

The main stages of work and characteristics of the system

  • Development of the simulation model of cargo handling in logistic complex of Irkutsk Oil Company on the AnyLogic platform
  • Verification and validation of the simulation model on historical data

System input data

  • Logistic complex structure (railway lines, auto roads, warehouses of materials and finished products, etc.)
  • Schedule of materials requirements and production plan in objects handled by logistic complex
  • Storage locations capacity
  • Execution order and duration of logistic operations

The main structural elements of the system

  • Input data file of scenario in MS Excel format
  • Simulation model with interactive presentation
  • Data aggregation module that allows to generate MS Excel files with the simulation results

System output data

  • Report about arrival of transport detailing planned and actual dates of arrival, duration of transportation and consignments features
  • Number of used transportation units every day
  • Report about transportation time utilization (duration of transportation of one rail car/ truck, shunting operations, loading and unloading operations, etc.)

Project result

  • Simulation model for estimation of adequacy of logistic resources and reasonable evaluation of turnover capacity efficiency of the modelled system
  • Possibility of scenario analysis of different logistic structures including rail operations, shunting, loading and unloading operations, internal automobile in terms of meaning presence and/ or location of logistic complex elements
