Development of Client-Specific Functionality for Integrated Mine Planning Tool of Norilsk Nickel

Increasing of simulation adequacy and improvement of the effectiveness of user’s work with the system of mining simulation tool.

Period: May 2017 – December 2018
Industry: Mining
Client / Partner: Norilsk nickel

Project objective

Increasing of simulation adequacy and improvement of the effectiveness of user’s work with the system of mining simulation modeling

The main stages of work and characteristics of the system

  • Taking part in preparing technical specification for additional development of the system of planning of underground nickel ore mining operations
  • Additional development of the simulation model on the AnyLogic platform
  • Verification and validation of the model
  • Additional development of the system of planning of underground nickel ore mining operations on the Eclipse platform
  • Taking part in testing, users’ training, and implementation the system
  • Simulation model user’s manual preparation

System input data

  • Geometric and mining-geological features of mines
  • Schedules, technological operations execution order and duration
  • Technical characteristics and limitations of main and auxiliary equipment and transport
  • Information from external IT-systems of the client

The main structural elements of the system

  • Module for import of geometric features of mine in .dxf, .txt format
  • Module for import of mining-geological features of stopes in .xls format
  • System of planning of underground nickel ore mining operations on the Eclipse platform for data setting and editing
  • Simulation model with interactive presentation in 2D and 3D
  • Data aggregation module that allows to generate MS Excel files with the simulation results

System output data

  • Visualization of operational indicators of mine production, visualization of the critical indicators (bottlenecks) during the modeling
  • Equipment utilization by equipment and transport type
  • Financial expenses by equipment and transport unit

Project result

  • Modeling of auxiliary equipment operation, additional development of algorithms of equipment and transport dispatching for simulation adequacy increasing
  • Integration with GIS-systems «MineSched GEOVIA» and «MicroMine»
  • Visualization of geometrical features of mine in 3D
